27 сентября православные христиане отмечают Воздвижение Креста Господня. Это один из 12 главных праздников церковного календаря. В этот день соблюдают пост и не начинают новых дел.В православии праздник относится к двунадесятым, то есть к 12 важнейшим в церковном календаре. Полное название — Воздвижение Честного и Животворящего Креста Господня.

Это единственный из двунадесятых праздников, в основу которого легло событие, не связанное непосредственно с земной жизнью Спасителя и произошедшее через несколько веков после Воскресения Христова.

Праздник Воздвижения посвящен событиям, которые связаны с обретением и возвращением после утраты деревянного креста, на котором был распят Иисус Христос.

Речь идет об обретении равноапостольной царицей Еленой в 326 году того самого Креста, на котором был распят Господь, и о поклонении этой святыне православных христиан. Для верующих это день поста и сугубого воспоминания о Голгофской Жертве.

Издавна Воздвижение связывали с окончанием последнего тепла и бабьего лета, встречей осени, завершением полевых работ и с заготовкой капусты. Народное название праздника — Капустник.

На Воздвижение верующие соблюдают строгий пост. В этот день нельзя есть мясо, рыбу, яйца и молочные продукты.

Животворящий Крест Твоея благости, Егоже даровал еси нам недостойным Господи, Тебе приносим в молитву, спаси люди и град Твой молящийся, Богородицею, Едине Человеколюбче.
